Reverse mortgage

Unlock the equity in the card you already own.

You've owned that GTX 1080 for ten years. It's paid off. It still runs. Now it can pay you, in small, extremely small, monthly installments.
How it works

Your card pays you, for once

A reverse mortgage lets an older card's owner borrow against its value without selling it. We pay you each month. You keep gaming on it. The loan is repaid when you upgrade, sell the card, or the card passes away peacefully during a driver update.

The balance grows every month instead of shrinking, which is the "reverse" part. The card's value shrinks every month too, which is the part we don't put in the ads.

62 Minimum age, in GPU years
$5.00 Cash available, typical GTX 1080
7 cents A month, for the life of the card
Eligibility

Do you qualify?

Age

62 or older, in GPU years

One human year is about nine GPU years, so your card needs to be at least seven years old. A GTX 1080 is ninety. Treat it with respect.

Residence

It's your primary card

The card must be installed in the PC you actually use. A card in a drawer is a vacation home and does not qualify.

Upkeep

You maintain the property

You must keep it dusted, keep its drivers current until the drivers stop coming, and not let it overheat in the summer months.

Condition

It still powers on

We check by turning it on. If it beeps three times, we check again. If it beeps three times again, our appraiser will say a few words.

Worked example

A typical GTX 1080

Here's what a reverse mortgage looks like on a well-kept, ten-year-old card. Fees come out first, as they do with real reverse mortgages.

Reverse mortgage, GTX 1080 Amount
Principal limit 52% of a $120 appraised value. $62.40
Upfront mortgage insurance premium 2% of the appraised value. -$2.40
Origination fee -$25.00
Servicing fee set-aside For the paperwork of paying you seven cents a month. -$30.00
Cash available to you $5.00

A retired actor

"I once played a graphics card in a commercial. Since then I've relied on the one in my den, and now it relies on me. A reverse mortgage from Fannie VRAM gave us both peace of mind, and seven cents."

Borrower

Gerald, GTX 970

"They said my card only had 3.5 GB of memory worth lending against. I said it had four. We settled on 3.5. It's the best seven cents I've ever borrowed."
